Threads or Instagram: which one to choose for auto-posting

How the two platforms differ for auto-posting, who Threads suits, who Instagram suits, and how to automate Threads on dozens of accounts.

In short: Threads is text-first: a post can go without a photo, up to 500 characters. Instagram is built around photos and videos. For auto-posting from many accounts that means different things: on Threads you vary the text, on Instagram mostly the media. Thredium works with Threads today: it publishes from dozens of accounts, each with its own text, browser and proxy.

On Threads a short text quickly becomes a conversation: people reply, argue and add to it. So for many Threads accounts the comments matter as much as the posts.

When to choose Threads

  • You write. Opinions, tips, short stories and questions to the audience all make a normal Threads post, even without a picture.
  • You need many accounts in one niche. Text variants such as {Good morning|Hello} give every account its own version of the post, so the posts do not look like spam. See Threads auto-posting.
  • Engagement through comments. AI commenting replies under other people's posts, to the point and in the language of the post — see the AI commenting guide.

When to choose Instagram

  • Your content is photos and video. Visual products, fashion, food and travel do better on Instagram, where a feed post always has media.
  • You need one or two brand accounts. Posts of an official business account can be scheduled in the free Meta Business Suite.

Can you run both

Yes, and many people do: visual content on Instagram, texts and discussions on Threads. For many Threads accounts there is Thredium: posting, warmup, AI commenting, profile design and schedules in one Mac and Windows app. Thredium does not support Instagram yet.

How to start auto-posting on Threads

  1. Download Thredium and add your accounts — see Threads accounts.
  2. Give every account its own proxy — see Proxies for Threads accounts.
  3. Warm up new accounts first — see Warming up Threads accounts.
  4. Write a post with text variants and start posting now or on a schedule.
