In short: AI commenting means comments written by a language model. It reads the post and answers to its point instead of pasting one template under everything. In Thredium, accounts scroll the Threads feed, pick some of the posts and publish a reply in the language of the post. Your prompt sets the tone. It works with your own API key for OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok or OpenRouter: you pay the provider for the tokens, and the feature is in the Pro plan.
The idea is simple: visible, relevant comments under other people's posts bring people to your profile. On Threads, replies show right under the post, so a template "Great post!" from a dozen accounts stands out at once. Below is how AI commenting works in Thredium, what it costs and which settings the app considers safe.
AI comments versus templates
There are two ways to leave comments automatically:
| Template comments | AI commenting | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the text comes from | your ready variants | the model writes for a particular post |
| Link to the post | a general phrase | answers the content of the post |
| Language | the one you wrote in | the language of the post |
| Where in Thredium | the Warmup module, Engagement block | a separate AI commenting module |
| Cost | included in the plan | Pro plan + tokens at the AI provider |
Templates are good for warmup: comments there are few, up to 5 % of posts (more in How to warm up a Threads account). AI commenting is for when comments are the main way to draw attention to a profile.
How Thredium writes comments
Every chosen account opens Threads in its own browser profile, with its own proxy, and runs a session:
- Scrolls a feed — its own, by topics or by the profiles in a list (more below).
- Picks a post with the chosen probability — this is the "Comment frequency".
- Sends the model the text of the post and, if the model understands images, the photos from the post.
- The model writes a reply to the point of the post and in its language, without hashtags and without mentioning that it is an AI. If the post is unclear, sensitive or there is nothing to say about it, the model may skip it.
- The account likes the post, if it has not yet, and publishes the comment.
If the model's answer is longer than the chosen "AI comment length", the comment is not published and the post is skipped. So cut-off texts never reach the feed.
What AI commenting costs
The cost has two parts.
1. The Thredium plan. AI commenting is only in Pro — $99 a month: unlimited accounts and proxies, as many browsers at once as the computer's memory allows. Starter and Scale have no AI commenting. Prices are on the pricing page.
2. Requests to the AI provider. Every generated comment is a request with your key. The test on the page is a request too. The provider sets the price of tokens, and the money is charged to your account with the provider, not through Thredium.
What affects the spend:
- "AI comment length" (Settings → AI models): "Short", "Medium" or "Long". That is up to 160, 320 and 480 characters; a longer answer is not published;
- the model's thinking: for models that can "think", the thinking mode reserves extra room, and an answer may cost more;
- images: if the model understands images, the app sends it the photos from the post too;
- frequency and length: the more posts an account comments on per session, the more requests.
To estimate the budget, note that one comment takes the post text (input) and the reply itself (output): a short reply takes up to 200 tokens, a medium one up to 360, a long one up to 600. Multiply the number of comments per day by these tokens and by the model's price at the provider; the exact spend shows in the provider's dashboard after the first runs.
If the provider rejected the key, the balance ran out or the model is unavailable, the task stops with "Stopped: the AI provider rejected the key, the balance is out or the model is unavailable". Check the key and the balance in the provider's dashboard.
Which models you can connect
Settings → AI models has a table of providers: OpenAI, Google Gemini, xAI Grok, DeepSeek and OpenRouter.
- Press the key button next to the provider and paste the API key. The key is kept only on your computer.
- The provider's model list loads with your key. Choose a model in the "Model" column — the choice is kept for each provider separately.
- If the model can think, a thinking mode setting appears next to it.
On the AI commenting page, the "AI provider" field shows only the providers whose keys you added. A ✓ means the key is set, and the chosen model is shown next to it.
Which model to choose is best decided by a test (see below): run the same 3–5 posts from your niche through several models and compare the replies and the price.
Setting the tone: the prompt
The "Active prompt" sets the tone:
- "Default (auto)" — Thredium's built-in persona: the model picks a natural tone for every post itself;
- your own prompt — "New prompt", then a name and the instruction text. You can keep several prompts, for example one per persona. "Edit" and "Delete" work on the chosen prompt.
A prompt for an interior design studio account:
`` You are an interior designer from Lviv. Write briefly and kindly, to the point, and share a practical observation. Do not offer to buy anything and do not post links. ``
A prompt for a coffee shop account:
`` You are a barista from Odesa. Answer warmly and to the point of the post, sometimes ask a short question back. No ads, no emoji in every sentence. ``
The prompt sets the style, but the comment still answers the content of the post. If you delete a prompt, tasks already running keep it, and new tasks take the default prompt.
Checking before the start: "Test AI comment"
Before the first run, paste the text of a real post from your niche into "Sample post text" and press "Generate". An "AI would reply" answer appears with the provider and model name. Nothing is published. The test uses the chosen provider and the active prompt.
If the key does not fit or the model is unavailable, an error with an "Open AI settings" button appears instead of a reply.
Frequency, length and choosing posts
The session
| Setting | Range | Default | Safe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session length | 5–480 minutes | 15–60 | — |
| Comment frequency | 10–100 % of posts | 30 % | 20–50 %; above 70 % — a warning |
| Minimum comments under post | 0 and up | 0 (filter off) | — |
At 30 % the account comments on about every third suitable post and just scrolls past the rest. Comments under almost every post look unnatural and raise the risk of restrictions, so above 70 % Thredium warns you. For new accounts the app advises starting at 20–30 %.
"Minimum comments under post" keeps only posts where a discussion is already going — more people see your reply there. Only original posts count, not replies. Too high a value filters out almost everything.
Where posts come from
- "Feed mode" (default) — accounts comment on their own feed.
- "Comment by interests" — topics separated by commas, for example "interior design, renovation, Lviv". The account searches Threads for each topic and comments on the posts it finds.
- "Comment by usernames" — a list of profiles separated by commas or on new lines; the @ sign is optional. The account opens each profile and comments only on its posts.
Interests and usernames can be on together — then the account goes through both topics and profiles.
Reply languages
Without chosen languages, a comment is written in the language of the post, whatever it is. If you press "Choose languages" and tick, say, Ukrainian and English, accounts comment only on posts in these languages and skip the others. Posts in another script (for example Chinese or Japanese) are filtered out before the request to the AI, so no tokens are spent on them.
If there are few comments, the feed probably has few posts in the chosen languages. Add interests in the language you need.
Start and result
- Press "Choose accounts" and tick accounts with the "Active" status.
- Check the "Length" and "Frequency" tiles in the Launch block.
- Press "Start commenting". "Stop commenting" stops the task.
If the button is inactive, the reason is written next to it in yellow, for example "Add an AI key in Settings" or "Choose at least one account".
The course of the task is in the "Task progress" block. The result for every account is in Task logs, which also has a button that opens the published comment, so the result is easy to check. Key and quota errors come to Notifications and, if the Telegram bot is connected, there too.
What the AI provider receives
The provider gets:
- the text of the post;
- the photos from the post (if the model understands them);
- your prompt;
- the usernames of the commenting account and of the post's author.
Passwords, cookies and proxy details are not in the request. Requests go from your computer straight to the provider, and the API key is kept only locally. Accounts, cookies and browser profiles are not sent to the Thredium server.
How not to harm your accounts
- Warmup first. Fresh accounts go through warmup first.
- A moderate frequency. Start at 20–30 % and sessions of 15–60 minutes.
- Not everything at once. Do not run an aggressive prompt on a large group of fresh accounts right away — that is the app's own advice.
- Only Active accounts. Sign in again to accounts with "Needs verification" or "Auth error" first.
- A comment is a reply, not an ad. A prompt that makes every reply sell something or carry a link turns AI commenting into spam. Spam is forbidden by Thredium's Acceptable Use Policy and by the rules of Threads.
No setting guarantees that Threads will not restrict the accounts: the platform makes those decisions.
Frequently asked questions
What is AI commenting in simple words?
Comments under posts are written by a neural network: it reads the post and answers to its point. In Thredium it is the AI commenting module. Accounts scroll the Threads feed by themselves, pick some of the posts, like them and publish replies.
What software do I need for AI commenting on Threads?
The Thredium app (macOS on Apple Silicon or Windows 10/11), the Pro plan, an API key from one of the providers (OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok or OpenRouter) and proxies for the accounts. No separate scripts or browsers are needed.
Are AI requests included in the plan?
No. AI commenting works with your API key, and the tokens are paid to the provider at its prices. The Pro plan gives access to the feature itself.
Which language are the comments written in?
The language of the post. If you choose languages under "Reply languages", accounts comment only on posts in those languages.
How many comments a day are safe?
Thredium sets a share of posts, not a number of comments: 20–50 % is safe, above 70 % the app warns. How many that is depends on the session length and the speed of the feed. For new accounts start at 20–30 %.
Can I comment on the posts of particular people?
Yes: turn on "Comment by usernames" and list the profiles. The account opens each profile and comments only on its posts.
Is AI commenting in the free trial?
No. The free trial (1 day, 1 account, 1 proxy) has posting and profile design. AI commenting is only in Pro.
